Griffith, John, Rev. (1860-?), amateur astronomer and early investigator into megalithic astronomy, Abergavenny.

Jones, Kenneth Glyn (1915-1995), amateur astronomer and deep sky observer, originated from New Tredegar.

Lewis of Caerleon (mid 15th century – end 15th / early 16th century), astronomer, mathematician, physician, theologian, probably from
Caerleon.

Lowe, Edward Joseph (1825-1900), amateur astronomer, lived near Chepstow in later life, moving from Nottingham (see Nottinghamshire).

Owen, Edwin Vaughan (1870-1950), amateur observer, younger brother of O. J. Owen, Abergavenny.

Owen, Owen John , OBE (1867-1960), amateur observer, Abergavenny.

Jenkins, Taliesyn Kenwin (b. 1879), amateur observers, author of popular articles, Nantyglo/Blaina.

Societies and Organisations

Abergavenny Astronomy Society (AbergAS), founded 2011. Members hold bi-monthly (2nd & 4th Mon.) meetings at The King’s Head Public House, 59 Cross St., Abergavenny (NP7 5EU), observing sessions and other events .

Astronomical Society of Wales (ASW), 1895-c.1914, held occasional meetings in Newport.

Heads of the Valley Astronomical Society (HVAS), founded (?).  Members meetings are held monthly () at the Learning Action Centre, James Street, Ebbw Vale.

Monmouth Astronomical Research Society (MARS), founded (?).  Members meet monthly (2nd Tues, except Aug.) at the physics lab. of Monmouth School for Boys, Almshouse Street,  Monmouth (NP25 3XP).

Usk Astronomical Society (UAS), founded 1974.  Members meet weekly (Thurs. term time) at the Community Education Centre (Usk Old Grammar School), Maryport Street, Usk.
