Astronomy Groups: Cornwall

Callington community Astronomy Group (CalAG), active group east Cornwall.

Cornwall Astronomical Society (CorAS), active meeting twice monthly mid or West Cornwall.

Landsend Astronomers (LaA), founded 2000, appears to be still active on facebook  (2016).

Kernow Astronomers (KA), previously Brannel Astronomers, formed 2004 an active group meeting mid Cornwall.

Roseland Observatory Society  (ROS), founded 1998.  Set up as an astronomy outreach facility, the observatory provide public viewing for both a younger and adult Audience. The  observing venue located at Court Farm Holiday Camp Site, St Stephen, Mid Cornwall PL26 7LE, has both a 8-inch reflector, a 7-inch refractor,binoculars and other equipment.

Tolcarn Astronomy Club (TOC), founded (?). An education astronomy group established to meet at the Tolcarn Observatory’. Tolcarn Research and Educational Observatory,
Tolcarn, Coombe, St Austell (PL26 7LG).

West Cornwall Astronomical Society (WCAS), long standing club for West Cornwall which is now closed (closure approx. 2003)

Associated Groups

Royal Cornwall Polytechnic Society (RCPS), based in Falmouth.  This society is a long standing society of over 175 years which encourages innovation and culture.  In the past it produced a scientific journal, as well as awarding grants and medals to scientists.  It also owned the two observatories within Falmouth, listed above.  At the moment it is a society which is more focused on the arts.

The Society for the Astronomical Study of Ancient Stone Monuments (1906-1911),  founded in Penzance with Norman Lockyer as president. Was probably the first archaeoastronomy group in the world. This lead to a second group forming in Wales a few years later.
