Astronomy Groups: Warwickshire

Birmingham Astronomical Society (BiAS), founded 1950.  Members hold monthly lecture meetings at 5th floor, room 554 of Aston University and have access to an observatory on the university campus.

Coventry & Warwickshire Astronomical Society (CWAS),  originally founded in 1939, as the Coventry Technical College Astronomical and Meteorological Society (CTCAMS). A small breakaway group formed the Coventry Astronomical Telescope making society (CATMS), later becoming the Warwickshire Astronomical Society (WAS).  These groups then merged 1974 to form the current society. Members hold monthly meetings at  Earlsdon Methodist Church Hall, Earlsdon Road South, Coventry (CV5 6NF).

Heart of England Astronomical Society (HoEAS), founded in 1972, originally as the Chelmsley Astronomical Society, firsting meet at Chelmsley Library (Solihull). At an early stage the group built a small run-off observatory in the grounds of Coleshill Hall Hospital for a 6-inch reflector, later upgraded to a larger domed building for larger instruments including a 17-inch reflector. With the sale of the hospital for re-development the observatory was abandoned in 1987.  Members now meet and observe from premises in the village of Furnace End.

Knowle Astronomical Society (KnAS), founded (?). Monthly meetings are held at Dorridge Village Hall, Grange Road, Dorridge, (B93 8QA).

Long Itchington Observers (), founded (?). An observers group based in Long Itchington that appears defunct (2018)

Rugby and District Astronomical Society (RDAS), founded 2007 by 5 keen like minded amateur astronomer.  The group has around 30 members (2017) now meets monthly  at Church Lawford village hall (CV23 9EE).  They are involved in active observing and have an outreach programme with local schools and youth groups.  Notable members include: Geoffrey Johnstone (Dir., Deep Sky section, BAA); Mike Frost (Dir. BAA Historical section); Chris Longthorn (member BAA Deep sky section, Speaker and imager) & Dr Johanna Jarvis (Astrophysicist).

Stratford-Upon-Avon Astronomical Society (SAAS), founded (?).  Members  (60 -2017) meet bi-monthly at the Church Hall, Alderminster (CV37 8PE).

Sutton Coldfield Astronomical Club (SCAC), founded (?), formerly the Pype Hayes Astronomical Club (PHAC).  Members meet fortnightly at St Chads Church, Hollyfield Road, Birmingham (B75 5SN).

University of Birmingham Astronomical Society (UBAS), founded(?).  Formed of under & postgraduate students of the university.  Monthly meetings held at the Poynting Large Lecture Theatre,University of Birmingham, Edgbaston Park Rd., Birmingham (B15 2TU).
