Astronomy Groups: Sussex

Adur Astronomical Society (AdAS), founded 2008 in West Sussex to encourage astronomy, for both beginners and the more experienced.  The members (50) meet at the Southwick Christian Community Centre (BN42 4TY).

Brighton Astro (BrA), founded (?).  members meet monthly (4th Tues.) at 68 Middle Street, Brighton (BN1 1AL).

Crawley Astronomical Society (CrawAS),  founded (?).  Monthly meetings are held at Ifield Community Centre. 41 Ifield Drive, Crawley (RH11 0DG).

East Sussex Astronomical Society (ESAS), founded 2000 by by Marcus Croft, Doug Hastings and Andy Lawes.  Monthly meetings are held at Egerton Park Indoor Bowls Club, Egerton Road, Bexhill, (TN39 3HL).

Eastbourne Astronomical Society (EaAS), founded 1960 with the help of  the late Sir Patrick Moore.  The member (100 – 2017) meet monthly (sat. evenings) at Willingdon Memorial Hall, Church Street, Willingdon, with public observing sessions at The Redoubt Napoleonic Fortress, Eastbourne (BN22 7AQ).

Foredown Tower Astronomers (FTA), founded (?). Members meet monthly (3rd Thurs.) at the Emmaus Community Premises, on the corner of Manor & Drove Road, Old Portslade Village (BN41 2PA).

Horsham Astronomy Group (HoAG), founded (?). Members (30 – 2017) meet monthly at The Forest School, Comptons Lane, Horsham (RH13 5NW).

Lewes Astronomers (LeA), founded (?). Monthly meetings (1st Wed.) are held at the Lecture Room, Town Hall, Lewes (entrance in Fisher Street).

Seven Sisters Astronomical Society (SeSAS), founded 2014.  Members meet Willingdon Memorial Hall, 42 Church Street, Willingdon, Eastbourne (BN20 9HT).

South Downs Astronomical Society (SoDAS), founded by Geoff Buss (?), Members meet at South Downs Planetarium, Sir Patrick Moore Building, Kingsham Farm, Chichester (PO19 8RP).

Wadhurst Astronomical Society (WadAS),  founded 2001 (?), that meets monthly at meet in Classrooms IL5/6 at Uplands Community College, Wadhurst.

Wealden Astronomers (WeA), founded (?). Members meet monthly at Herstmonceux Castle, Wartling Road Entrance Hailsham East Sussex BN27 1RN (contact name: John Fox (chairman) – email: johnfoxphotos@gmail.com).

Worthing Astronomers (WA), founded (?). Member meet monthly inWorthing.

Worthing Astronomical Society (WortAS), founded 1965 in West Sussex originally as the Astro Circle, then Newtonian Observatory Astronomical Society (NOAS) in 1966, before adopting its current name in 1982. The members meet at the Highdown Room at the Emmanuel United Reformed Church, Worthing (BN11 4SD).  Since 1969 the club had access to an observatory that was located originally in the garden of founder member Graham Boots until it was moved to Windlesham House School in 2005.
