Astronomy Groups: Durham

 

Cleveland Astronomical Society (ClevAS) founded 1979, but later merger with the Darlington Astronomical Society to form the Cleveland Astronomical and Darlington Society.

Cleveland and Darlington Astronomical Society (ClevDAS), founded 1990 following the merger of the neighbourig  and Darlington Astronomical Society Members meet monthly (Sept.- Jun.) at Grindon Parish Hall in Thorpe Thewles village, near Stockton.

Darlington Astronomical Society (DAS) founded 1980, but later merger with the Cleveland Astronomical Society to form the Cleveland Astronomical and Darlington Society.

Durham Astronomical Society (DurAS), founded 1989. Members (20 – 2017) meet monthly (4th Fri. Sept.- Jun.) at The Botanic Garden, Hollingside Lane, Durham (DH1 3TN).

South Shields Astronomical Society (SSAS), founded 1957 by South Shields Marine & Technical College Marine lecturers. Members meet fortnightly (Thur.) at South Tyneside College, St Georges Avenue, South Shields (NE34 6ET).

Sunderland  Astronomical  Society (SuAS), founded in 1993 to encourage astronomy, for both beginners and the more experienced. Members meet at the society’s public Cygnus observatory at the Washington Wetlands Centre (NE38 8LE).
