Pigott, John Hugh Smyth (1792-1853), a West-Country landowner who lived at Brockley Hall where he built an octagonal observatory on the roof of his country house. It was equipped with a Dollond telescope, but it is unclear whether it was used for astronomical observations. Surviving records suggest his main scientific interest lay with geology and history (Rutter 1828).
