Ransomes of Ipswich (1808-84) name varied during the 19th century as the partnership changed (Ransomes & May, Ransomes,Simms & Jeffries, Ransome & Head, Ransomes & Rapier), manufacturer of agricultural machinery at the Orwell Works, Ipswich. They also made telescope mounts for the Orwell Obsevatory and the Royal Observatory, Greenwich (Grace’s Guide).
