Astronomy Groups: Yorkshire – East Riding

Brough Astronomy (BroA), founded 1980s and formerly Blackburn Leisure Astronomy Society (BLAS), meeting at the Leisure Club of British Aerospace [BAE Systems] formerly Blackburn Aircraft, factory sited near the river in Brough [HU15 1BB].  The group’s observatory located at this site houses a 14-inch Meade SCT instrument.

East Riding Astronomers (ERA), founded (?). Members (24 – 2018) meet monthly (3rd Mon.) at the Friends Meeting House in Quaker Lane, Woodlands, Beverley.

Goole Astronomy Club (GoAC), founded (?).  Members meet monthly (3rd Wed.) at Goole Library, Carlisle Street, Town Centre, Goole, East Yorkshire.

Hull Literary and Philosophical Society – Astronomy Section (HLPS), established in 1920s and active until the advent of the Second World War.

Hull & East Riding Astronomical Society (HERAS), founded 1953 following the demise of the astronomy section of the HLPS. Under the patronage of the founder Dr Cameron Walker, it utilised a small observatory at Kingston High School (1953-1982).  Members have held meeting at various venues – currently at Hull and East Riding Sports Club, Hull  (HU5 4ED).
